The mission: Merging nano-optics and nanomagnetism

The larger ambition of FEMTOTERABYTE is to create a new research community that merges nano-optics/nanophotonics with nanomagnetism, spintronics and magnonics. We envision launching a number of discussion forums, where the interaction between these research fields will be stimulated.

These events are organized by the partners of the project in order to reach this ambition:


10th International Conference on metamaterials, photonic Crystals and plasmonics (23-26 July 2019, Lisbon, Portugal), Special Session SP8 "Dynamic metamaterials”

The Special Session covers the fundamental principles and applications behind the dynamic metamaterials, and will particularly aim to explore the new materials, structures, and advanced optical metasurfaces for applications spanning from communication, imaging and data storage to bio/chemical sensing and energy harvesting. This includes the topics of Dynamic metasurfaces with electrical, thermal, chemical, optomechanical, magnetic and others external controls; Nonlinear dynamic and tunable metasurfaces; New materials to reach dynamic metasurfaces (2D materials, oxides/nitrides, phase-change materials, high-index dielectrics); Magnetophotonics and magnetoplasmonics at the nanoscale; Nanophotonics and nanoplasmonics for femtomagnetism; Optical metamaterials and nanoantennas for spintronics.

Joint European Magnetic Symposia (26-30 August, Uppsala, Sweden)
'Magneto-optics and magnetoplasmonics' Symposium


University of Gothenburg, Uppsala University.
This symposium is devoted to light-controlled dynamic phenomena in magnetic systems, including the confinement of light to the nanoscale with magnetoplasmonics and magneto-nanophotonics. The subjects in magnetically-operated nano-optics will also be covered.
