Title: Magic number shift in SF6 based clusters

Abstract:
In this talk a method called BIRD - blackbody induced radiative dissociation, will be introduced and shown to be a useful tool for cluster science as it allows the binding energies of clusters to be measured. We have studied the BIRD dissociation rates of SF6 based clusters, using an experimental system consisting of a supersonic expansion ion source coupled to an electrostatic ion beam trap, and making use of a novel method for mass selection within the ion beam trap.
