We are an interdisciplinary research group with focus on single cell analysis. The scientific vision of our research is to develop experimental techniques in physics that in the end will be applied in medicine and life science. By combining the visualization possible of modern imaging techniques with the spatial and temporal control of the sample provided by optical manipulation and microfluidics we can study the dynamic and properties of single cells.
The corner stones in our research are:
• Laser based optical manipulation techniques (such as optical tweezers, holographic optical tweezers, laser scalpels and optical force measurements) for non-invasive and sterile manipulation and probing of single cells.
• Tailored microfluidic structures and pumping systems for dynamic control of the environment around the trapped cells.
• Advanced optical imaging and spectroscopy techniques for temporal and spatial visualization of cellular responses through GFP-tagged proteins, staining by fluorescent probes or quantum dots.
